My Story
I began my career with a master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and positions in Human Resources (which I didn’t really like) and Training (which I loved!). After moving to Virginia Beach, I got a dream job as the one-person training department for a rapidly growing company, owned and run by retired NAVY SEALS. Unfortunately for me, but good for them, they sold the business to very large federal government contracting company. This company asked me to move back into an HR role, and I used this time to get certified as a Senior Professional in HR. I found myself unhappy in this role (again) so I decided to start several businesses with some of the NAVY SEALS from the original company.
At the onset, I ran and grew a B2B company that provided back-office services, such as bookkeeping, human resources, training, and website development. After five years of growing that business, I transitioned to run another one of our businesses, RMGS, a federal government contracting company that had about 30 employees. I stayed in that role for over 9 years, as the company grew to 130 employees and $27MM in annual revenue. Running these companies was an amazing experience of learning and growth. However, I got bogged down in day-to-day operations and struggled to lead at a strategic level. I eventually felt burned out. If only I had a business coach!
Over the years, I entertained offers to sell the company, but it was never the right time for me and my partners. In 2022, I decided to sell my shares of the company. This provided me with an amazing opportunity to focus on my passions. But what are they? I spent a little time figuring that out. I knew I liked training. I’m a weird combination of “D’ and “S” on the DiSC scale (which means I like running things, but also supporting other people). My love language is Acts of Service.
I roll all this together to help people in businesses – by sharing my expertise in entrepreneurship, HR and Federal government contracting through Training, Mentoring and Coaching. There’s nothing quite as fulfilling as when someone I’m coaching, mentoring or training has an “AH-HA” moment. When their eyes light up, because they know exactly what they need to do.
